If you've followed me for a while, you probably know that living a healthy lifestyle is something that is really important to me. Today, I am excited to share with you three of the ways I balance a busy schedule with living healthy.
1. You are what you eat. Before I go any further I must tell you, I do NOT stick to this rule 100% of the time. I love pizza and ice cream just as much as the next girl. However, it is not something I allow myself to enjoy every day. In order to live a healthy lifestyle I try to eat as healthy as possible while not depriving myself of things I want and enjoy. During the week, I start my days off with a wholesome breakfast… eggs and fruit, cereal with fresh berries on top, or a whole grain bagel with low-fat cream cheese. For me, it is important to get the day started off right. If I grab fast food on my way to work, I am much more likely to eat something not so healthy later on in the day. For lunch I like to keep things lite…grilled chicken salad or a turkey sandwich. The more I eat at lunch the more sluggish I feel throughout the rest of the day. When it comes to dinner time I try to have at least one green thing every night… a salad, green beans or broccoli.
2. Going to the gym is not one of my favorite things to do. But, being active is. So, I like to find active alternatives to the gym. The hubs and I are lucky enough to have a college with a beautiful campus right outside our back door. On a crisp, cool spring evening we love to head over and walk around the campus. There is a beautiful lake with many different gardens and who doesn’t love to stop and smell the roses? Our home, at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains, is also wonderful because it has several beautiful state parks with great hiking. Depending on the weekend, we may go for a quick morning hike or a longer hike that takes the better part of the day. And of course, you know my favorite way to be active is shopping. Yes, I do believe “hiking” around the mall after work in a cute dress and pumps is considered being active, which leads me to my third and final way I enjoy a healthy lifestyle.
3. As a fashion lover, there is nothing that makes me more motivated to be active than all the bright, cute, comfortable, activewear out these days.
